Some careers are defined by a title. Others are defined by impact. For Bob McGonagle, the distinction has always been the latter. His recent recognition from the National Petroleum Management Corporation (NPMC) makes that official.

Bob has been named the 164th inductee into the Order of the SPR, the highest individual honor the NPMC bestows. The award recognizes significant and enduring contributions to the aviation fueling industry, and few words describe Bob’s 22-year career at Scully more accurately than those two: significant and enduring.

From the Armed Forces to the Front Lines of Fueling Safety

Bob’s path to this recognition began in the U.S. Air Force, where he worked closely with fueling operations. A complex, high-stakes environment where a single procedural lapse can have serious consequences. When he transitioned out of service, he brought that mindset to Scully, a company that shared the belief that the transfer and transportation of hazardous liquids demands uncompromising safety at every step.

For over 20 years, that belief guided Bob. Scully’s core work requires not just technical knowledge, but the kind of relationship-driven credibility that only comes with decades of trust-building. Bob has spent his career working with Scully’s global offices and countless customers to grow the business, protect people and the environment, and forge long-term partnerships that now define the company.

A Career Built on the World’s Most Critical Fueling Projects

Ask anyone who has worked alongside Bob and a pattern emerges quickly. Whether engaging with military organizations, major international oil companies, aviation fueling operators, or fellow colleagues at Scully, he brings the same combination of technical fluency and personal accountability that the Order of the SPR was created to honor.

The award itself carries significant weight in the aviation fueling world. Established in 1991, the Order of the SPR takes its name from the single point receptacle, an acronym coined by the military when the first large jet pressure refueling systems were designed in the late 1940s. Its 163 previous inductees represent the leaders, innovators, and standard-bearers who shaped the industry. Bob joins that group as someone who has spent his entire career embodying that little extra difference between ordinary and extraordinary.

A Milestone Worth Celebrating

“Bob is an incredible colleague and friend, among many other things,” says Katrina Scully Ohl, President of Scully. “Through the years, I’ve been lucky to work alongside him to grow the company to what it is today. His achievements are truly exceptional and I couldn’t think of someone more deserving of this honor than Bob.”

As Scully marks its own 90th anniversary this year, Bob’s induction into the Order of the SPR is a reminder that what sets Scully apart is the people behind the products. People who came to this industry with a sense of purpose, stayed for decades, and made it meaningfully better.

Congratulations, Bob. This one is well earned.
